New York Knicks (2-9) At New Jersey Nets (0-12), 1 P.M.
(Sports Network) - The New York Knicks make the short trip across the Hudson River hoping to keep Atlantic Division-rival New Jersey winless on the season. The Knicks won for just the second time this year in Indianapolis on Wednesday when Al Harrington finished with a team-high 26 points and Larry Hughes added 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, as New York used strong bench play to end a six-game skid with a 110-103 win over the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse. Wilson Chandler and David Lee netted 18 and 17 points, respectively, in starting roles for the Knicks, who won for the first time since a 117-111 victory against New Orleans on November 2. New York's reserves outscored the Pacers' bench, 65-22. The Knicks also held a decisive 56-34 scoring advantage in the second half. "It gets us off the losing streak. That's all we're trying to do right now," said Lee. "All you can do is take it one game at a time, but 2-9 sounds better than 1-10." The Nets, meanwhile, continued their dreadful start in Milwaukee on Wednesday when Andrew Bogut poured in 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, as the Bucks handed New Jersey its 12th straight loss to begin the year in a 99-85 decision at Bradley Center. The Nets, who extended their worst start in franchise history, remained the only winless team in the NBA. The NBA record for futility to start a season is 17 straight losses, shared by the 1988-89 expansion Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers in the lockout-shortened 1999 season. Chris Douglas-Roberts paced the Nets with a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds, while rookie Terrence Williams tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for New Jersey. "They came out [of the half] with intensity. They have a good coach who told them to come out like they did," said Douglas-Roberts. "We didn't match their intensity. That was the difference." New Jersey is expected to get a big boost this afternoon. The team's best player, All-Star guard Devin Harris, is expected to be available for the first time since injuring his groin on Oct. 30. On the other hand the Knicks made the decision not to add help in former All- Star guard Allen Iverson. Iverson, who was waived by Memphis after playing just three games, was rumored to be headed to New York but the Knicks officially passed on the future Hall of Famer Friday. "We feel like that could hurt our development in the future, so we want to go the way we're going," general manager Donnie Walsh said. "There will be other things we can do during the year that will be more in line with what our philosophy has been." These two teams have split their last six meetings in New Jersey.
