Cust Not Tendered A Contract By Athletics

Oakland, CA -- (Sports Network) - Outfielder/designated hitter Jack Cust became a free agent on Saturday after the Oakland Athletics decided not to tender a contract to the 30-year-old.Cust batted .240 with 25 homers and 70 RBI in 149 games for the A's last season, leading the team in home runs, walks (93) and strikeouts (185). A first-round pick in 1997 by Arizona, Cust is a career .239 hitter with 89 homers and 248 RBI in 491 gamse for the D'Backs, Rockies, Orioles, Padres and A's. He has led the American League in strikeouts the last three seasons, becoming the first player to do that since Minnesota's Bobby Darwin from 1972-74. The A's also announced that they did offer contracts to the remainder of their unsigned players from the 40-man roster, including arbitration-eligible pitcher Michael Wuertz and outfielders Rajai Davis and Scott Hairston.
