Todd Mokhtari

Todd Mokhtari joined KIRO Television as news director in February of 2007. His career in journalism spans nearly 22 years.

Mokhtari came to Cox-owned KIRO 7 after serving as managing editor for KNBC-TV, the NBC O&O station in Burbank, CA. Prior to that, Mokhtari served as the assistant news director at KNTV-TV, the NBC O&O station serving the San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland market. From 2002-2006, Mokhtari was responsible for taking the newly crowned NBC station to a new level, jumping from the 118th largest TV market in the country to the 6th largest.

From 1997 to 2002, Mokhtari served as news director for KCPQ-TV, the Fox affiliate in Seattle, WA. While at KCPQ, Mokhtari was responsible for literally building a newsroom and a newscast from the ground up. In just four months, he helped design the newsroom, order the equipment, oversee the construction of the news set and hire an entire staff. Instantly, the newscast tapped into a younger, non-news watching audience and grew rapidly, ranking second among late news viewers. After the station changed ownerships in 1999, Mokhtari helped launch another new newscast, this time building a three hour morning show, hiring an entire staff and redesigning the news set.

Mokhtari began his career at KCRA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Sacramento, CA. He joined the station as an intern and was later hired as an editor before working his way up to a writer and producer. As a producer, Mokhtari was responsible for the 5-7 a.m. newscasts and for guiding the 6 a.m. to being the single highest rated newscast in the country. Later, Mokhtari went on to produce the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts, consistently ranking those newscasts as the top-rated, and among the most respected in the country.

Mokhtari majored in Political Science and Rhetoric and Communications at the University of California, Davis. When not working, you can find him at the golf course, the gym or exploring the Pacific Northwest with his wife Debbie and son Nico.
