Do I need a converter box?
If you currently receive free TV over the air by antenna and don't have a digital tuner, you will need a converter box and a UHF/VHF-compatible antenna. These are available at your local electronics retailer.If you are on cable TV, satellite or other pay-TV service, you do not need a converter box for the FCC-mandated transition on June 12. Be sure you are tuned to our digital channels: 7.1 or 39.If you are tuned to 7.1 or 39 and still do not receive our signal, it’s possible you may be in an area that does not receive digital signals. If you live in portions of Eastern Clallam County, Eastern Jefferson County, King County, Western Mason County, Eastern Snohomish County and Central Thurston County and watch KIRO 7 using an antenna, you may lose service even if you properly install a converter box. We are in the process of purchasing equipment and waiting for necessary licenses to help ensure you can continue to watch KIRO 7. While you may not get our signal on June 12, we anticipate finalizing the agreement and installing the equipment by the end of September 2009. Please visit this page for future updates.Once the equipment is in place, you may receive KIRO 7 if you live in the Mount Vernon area, including Arlington, Burlington, La Conner and portions of Oak Harbor; and in the Olympia area, including Lacey, Nisqually and Tumwater.What channels will I receive?
If you have already made the switch and are viewing digital television using an over-the-air antenna, we recommend you periodically “rescan” (also known as “auto-tune”) the channels on your converter box or digital television. This may help you continue to receive every available digital station as more stations become available and as existing stations change their channels or service area as part of the nationwide switch.How can I get help with a more technical question regarding the DTV transition?
