SEATTLE - Cab drivers in Seattle and around the country are feeling safer in part due to InColor, an Emmy award-winning magazine program examining diversity in the Pacific Northwest. This edition of InColor airs Sunday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m. on KIRO 7 and Comcast 107.

In the March 2008 edition, InColor featured the vicious beating of a Sikh cab driver and rampant hate directed at others merely because of the way they look. Jay Singh, a University of Washington student, felt that a greater understanding of the people behind the wheel would go a long way toward a peaceful ride. Reporter Gary Horcher demonstrates how one simple sign has taken cab riders not only to their destination but also on the path to enlightenment.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Anchor Angela Russell talks with local sports legends who are paving the way for future generations of athletes. Lenny Wilkens, James Donaldson, Zaid Abdul-Azis, Mike Davis and Harold Mills were all recently inducted into the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame. As Russell points out, their accomplishments outside of their game will have an equally lasting impact on our community.

Three young sisters are already making their mark on music fans around the world. A YouTube video of the youngest sibling performing propelled the EriAm (Eritrean American) Sisters to the national stage. Reporter Graham Johnson showcases not only their music, but also their messages of respect and the value of education.

Reporter Deborah Horne hosts InColor from the James Washington House in Central Seattle. James Washington was a painter, sculptor, gardener and civil rights activist with hundreds of sculptures in private and public collections throughout the country, yet is often forgotten in his own backyard. Not for long: his studio and home are being preserved to share his artistic vision.

This edition of InColor also features the history behind a new book, Filipinos in Puget Sound; an artist’s unique perspective on America’s racial past; and a tradition of worship delivered in the Samoan language.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News InColor, which examines diversity in the Pacific Northwest, the issues it raises and its impact on all of us, airs Sunday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m. on KIRO 7 and Comcast 107.
