SEATTLE, Wash. – The numbers from the February sweep are in and KIRO 7 Eyewitness News at 5 AM and 6 AM posted significant household share growth and took second place in the morning news race. At 5 AM, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News’ 1.9 rating, 14 share bested KOMO’s 1.3 rating, 10 share and at 6AM, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News’ 2.6 rating, 13 share bested KOMO’s 1.9 rating, 9 share. KIRO’s four-point lead over KOMO represents the largest win ever.

KIRO 7 was the only station to show significant household share growth at the 5 AM hour from a year ago. KIRO’s 56% gain in overall household share at 5 AM came at KING’s expense. KING lost 20% of its audience household share from a year ago and KOMO lost 9% of its audience household share from February of 2004. And when faced with network competition at 7 AM, the momentum continued as KIRO 7 took second place and posted a 29% gain in overall household share.

At 5 PM, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News maintained its audience share from a year ago while KING and KOMO each dropped a share point from 5-5:30 PM.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News at 6 PM provided viewers with the only local news and weather coverage and delivered a 4.0 rating, 8 share in its first sweep. At 6:30 PM, KIRO 7’s 14% increase in audience household share came at KOMO’s expense. KOMO declined 18% in audience household share while KING remained flat.

And at 11 PM, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News once again took second place in this critical time period. Monday through Sunday at 11 PM, KIRO 7’s 7.1 rating, 16 share bested KOMO’s 5.9 rating, 13 share. KIRO 7 has maintained its number two position at 11 PM during every sweep since October 2001 and is clearly Seattle’s number two late news choice.

“This is an exciting time for the KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Team,” said KIRO-TV news director Helen Swenson. “We are proud to serve our growing number of viewers, as it’s clear more and more viewers are turning to KIRO 7 as their source for local news and weather.”
