Biggest Road Construction Season In History Gets Under Way

SEATTLE -- The state Transportation Department has started work on its biggest construction year in the agency's history.Spokeswoman Jamie Holter said crews are working on 400 projects in the Puget Sound area at a cost of $500 million this year.Find what projects are coming to your area on wsdot.govThe northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Seattle will be repaved starting Aug. 10.The project will stretch from Spokane Street to the Interstate 90 interchange and will last for two and a half weeks."(It would be) a great time to take a vacation. Think about taking a vacation," said Julie Mizuhata, a construction project engineer. Several lanes will be closed around the clock, leaving only two or three lanes open to handle all of the northbound traffic, even during rush hours.Increased gas tax revenue is paying for the projects.
