SEATTLE -- A collision closed three southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near South 178th Street towards the end of a Friday morning commute period that was rough for travelers all over Western Washington.A Washington State Department of Transportation camera showed fire and police at the scene of the collision that happened at about 8:25 a.m. There was no immediate word on injuries. Traffic was backed up for miles. The first significant rain in weeks may have played a role in several other collisions Friday morning, including a rollover crash that blocked the right lanes on the ramp from westbound state Route 520 to southbound I-5 in Seattle at about 6:25 a.m.Another accident closed the southbound lanes of the Battery Street Tunnel just before 7 a.m.Earlier, troopers responded to a collision on the left shoulder of northbound state Route 167 at 24th Street and a vehicle was reported facing the wrong way on westbound state Route 16 at the Nalley Valley Viaduct from southbound I-5.
