Driver Hit, Killed On Ship Canal Bridge

SEATTLE -- A driver who ran out of gas was struck and killed in the express lanes of Interstate 5 on the Ship Canal Bridge on Wednesday morning, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.The 10:15 a.m. crash happened in the southbound express lanes after a vehicle ran out of gas and its driver was pushing it out to the side. A box van hit the driver, who died at the scene.State Patrol Trooper Kelly Spangler identified the victim as Ronald D. Bergstrom, 50, of Seattle. The driver of the box van was not hurt.Bergstrom was pushing his vehicle from the driver's side when he was struck by the box van attempting to pass on the left.The express lanes were closed while state troopers investigated the collision. The investigation finished at about noon, and crews with the Washington Department of Transportation began the process of reopening the reversible express lanes in the northbound direction.
