I've got a backlog of questions from readers who have interesting questions that don't require long enough answers to qualify for a full space in our weekly Q&A features, so I thought I'd devote this space to answer a few of them at once.

Question: I hear that there is a lot of construction happening on Interstate 15 on the way to Vegas. Is there an alternate route that would be better to take from the Los Angeles area? Thanks for your awesome, insightful advice.

Answer: Yep, I-15 is a mess, with major road construction projects from Victorville, Calif., all the way to the Nevada state line. Unfortunately, there is no good way to get around it unless you want to add even more time to your drive by taking Interstate 40 out of Barstow, Calif., to Kingman, Ariz., and then taking Highway 93 up across Hoover Dam into Vegas. This route is significantly longer and will probably wind up taking you more time than if you just sit in traffic.

Just be careful on that stretch of I-15. Since construction began, accidents have risen dramatically.

Question: Do you know of any shows or nightclubs for people that are 18 to 20 years old?

Answer: An 18- to 20-year-old could get into all of the shows, even the topless and adult ones that require guests to be at least 18. Nightclubs are a different story, however. All of them require you to be 21 to get in, although some have occasional special events that will allow 18- to 20-year-olds through the door. You'll have to check with the various clubs to see if anything is scheduled during your next trip.

Question: I really enjoy your weekly column. I've always wondered about the following question: In a multigame, multidenomination video poker machine, is the payout based on each individual game and each individual denomination, or is it based on the total amount of money the machine takes in, regardless of the denomination or game being played?

Answer: Payout percentages are calculated per machine, not per game. So, if you play on a machine that has several different games in several different denominations, the payout would be for all of them in total. In other words, if the machine is set at 90 percent payout, it will hit that no matter what game or what denomination you are playing.
