Dry Spell May Set Record

SEATTLE -- It's Day 28 of an unusual spring dry spell in Western Washington.

The record is 29 days, set in May-June of 1982 as recorded at Sea-Tac Airport.

Forecasters in the KIRO 7 Weather Center said there's a chance of showers on Wednesday, the day the record would be tied.

"Rainfall is still iffy, and anything but guaranteed Wednesday," wrote KIRO 7 meteorologist Rick VanCise in his blog.

The overall record for consecutive dry days at Sea-Tac is 51, set in July and August of 1951.

Meanwhile, forecasters said there's a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. These storms may strike with heavy rain, small hail and gusty winds.

We will keep it dry for the commute tomorrow morning, but rain will be on the increase during the afternooon and evening. Rain continues Thursday and Friday with wind picking up at times. The wet pattern holds through the upcoming weekend with increasing rain on Saturday and showers on Sunday. High temperatures will be holding in the mid to low 50s through the rest of the week.
