EVERETT, Wash. -- Designer’s Furniture Warehouse in Everett was loading up slightly damaged furniture into a truck Thursday afternoon to deliver it to flood victims in Chehalis.“I’d like to challenge everybody in the Northwest who has an opportunity to do that, to do the same thing we’re doing here,” Designer’s Furniture Warehouse owner Larry McGee said. The furniture that would have otherwise been sold at a discounted price was taken to the United Way donation center at the Chehalis Eagles club for flood victims.“We didn’t bring the scraps; we brought the good stuff,” Nick White with Designer’s Furniture Warehouse said.Flood relief organizers said Thursday’s donation came at the right time. “We do have people who are at the point now that Sheetrock is in, the flooring is in, and they’re ready for furniture and ready for appliances,” Ross McDowell with Lewis County Emergency Management said.“I’m grateful, I’m very grateful, because if it weren’t for all these people donating all their time and effort, I probably wouldn’t have nothing,” flood victim Shawny Bertrand said. The United Way of Lewis County is currently accepting cash donations for flood victims. If you would like to donate, you can write a check to the United Way of Lewis County marked “2007 flood relief” and send it to United Way of Lewis County, 450 N.W. Pacific Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532, or call 360-748-8100.The United Way is also accepting furniture and appliances.
