SEATTLE -- People affected by the December floods have until Thursday to apply by phone or online for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA said.

"We want people to understand that this deadline is for new disaster applications," said Willie Nunn, Federal Coordinating Officer. "For those who already have applied, their cases will continue to be processed."

The Feb. 7 deadline is 60 days from the date when President Bush issued a major disaster declaration on Dec. 8.

People affected in Clallam, Grays Harbor, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Snohomish, Thurston and Wahkiakum counties may be eligible.

FEMA officials said even those who received financial help from volunteers and state agencies may be eligible for federal and state disaster assistance.
