SEATTLE -- A new study links serious health risks to a number of popular children's toys.Seattle-based Washington Toxics Coalition has found high levels of Phthalates in common toys.Phthalates are typically found in toys made of PVC and are linked to reproductive problems in babies and children.Nine of the 20 toys tested came right off the shelves of common retailers.Lawmakers are now pushing for the Children's Safe Products Act. They say it would ban the sale of toys made with hazardous chemicals."This is common sense legislation. We do not need toxic chemicals in our toys. There are wonderful safe toys out there and there is no reason we should have phthalates, lead or cadmium in our toys," said Erika Schreder of the Washington Toxics Coalition.Get information about the report's findings and the Children's Safe Products Act at www.safestartforkids.org.
