An update on Saturday's forecast

Snow near Yelm
Snow near Yelm

By Morgan Palmer

Snow showers are tapering off through the morning, with little or no further accumulation.  The Cascades will see some snow showers with a couple inches still possible at higher elevations.

High temperatures will be cold in the 30s, near 40.  However, there will be abundant breaks of sunshine, especially across northern locations.

Tonight, temperatures under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies will plummet after dark.  Lows will be in the 20s areawide, and any areas of standing water or slush will re-freeze.

Sunday will begin with local fog, freezing fog and remain mostly cloudy.  Skies will clear somewhat through the day before higher clouds stream in.  Highs will slightly warm as the next series of storms approaches and pushes warmer air in.

Monday morning as the rain increases, it could be snow over Hood Canal where the cold air is difficult to scour out.  Rain at times and windy weather is expected the first half of the week.  Flooding is quite probable in the Olympic Peninsula river systems and possible along rivers in the north Cascades next week.

Computer models also indicate possible damaging wind over a period of time on the Washington coast late Monday through Tuesday.
