Great Seattle sunsets on Sunday and Monday

I was able to get a few shots of the incredibly fiery sunsets on Sunday and Monday from near the Olympic Sculpture Garden as well as Alki Beach.

The Monday night sunset from Alki was made better by a small layer of altocumulus cloud drifting along the western sky.  Altocumulus clouds are a sign of mid-level instability in the atmosphere and often a sign of impending bad weather.  This layer of cloudiness on Monday night looked by my eye to be on the lower end of the official definition of Altocumulus (called "alto-cue" by meteorologists).   This deck was probably in the 7-10,000 foot height range though the Sea-Tac observation at the time had a scattered cloud deck at 12,000 feet.

Regardless, this was the last nice sunset before more clouds and showers started moving in for Tuesday.
