Seattle forecast for Friday

Before noon, winds are beginning to turn westerly and a trough of low pressure which instigated our rapid warm-up the past few days is now moving east of Puget Sound.

Thus, this afternoon won't be as warm as Thursday and our high temperatures records for the day are firmly intact.   The Excessive Heat Warning that had been in effect for highs well into the 90s has been replaced with a Heat Advisory, a lessening of the warning level from the National Weather Service.

Expect afternoon highs in the upper 80s to near 90 for Sea-Tac airport with plenty of lower 90s east of Lake Washington, in the Cascade foothills and parts of the South Sound.

Fire Weather Watch for lightning threat Saturday

A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for most of Western Washington Saturday as thunderstorms creating a significant threat of lightning for the lowlands and the mountains.  Fuels are very dry, so wildfires can quickly start and spread.

The National Weather Service noted this on Friday afternoon, "This lightning event has the potential to spark the most lightning-caused fires since around the time of the big heat wave in 2009."
