Beautiful Northwest weather continues into Monday

KIRO 7 5-Day Forecast
KIRO 7 5-Day Forecast

By Morgan Palmer

Another very nice day is forecast for the area with plenty of sunshine and just some high, thin ice crystal clouds.   High pressure remains locked over the Northwest, and will remain into the work week.  Highs today will be slightly cooler than Saturday's 60 in Seattle, owing to a slight cooling in the air mass aloft and slightly thicker high clouds.  Mid 50s will be the norm for the urban corridor of King and Snohomish counties with lower 50s highs for Olympia and Tacoma.

Winds will be light for many areas, especially from Tacoma and Olympia south and across Hood Canal.  An Air Stagnation Advisory is up for these areas.  A Stage Two burn ban is in effect for Thurston County and a Stage One ban for Pierce County.

Foothill locations will be breezy again with gusts to 30mph as an easterly wind downslopes out of the Cascades.  However, this will be some 5-10 miles per hour below peak winds on Saturday.  Mountains will see a freezing level averaging 6,500 feet with winds from 5-15mph out of the east and lots of sunshine.

Lows tonight will range from the mid 20s through upper 30s, with coldest locations from Olympia through the Chehalis valley. Fog and patchy freezing fog will develop in these areas early in the morning, but will not last beyond mid-morning.

On Monday, pressure gradients will increase across the Cascades again, with gusty winds for passes and foothills.  It will be breezy at times around the Central Sound and across the inland waters of the north.  Mainly sunny skies are forecast again.  Highs will be in the middle 50s.

High pressure breaks down a bit on Tuesday and Wednesday and while Tuesday remains dry, more clouds are expected.  A few light showers are possible, mainly across the coast and north on Wednesday.  Highs will be closer to average... around 50 degrees.

Forecast models diverge on the late week time period.  While the forecast at this point will call for light showers through Friday, we will be tracking the possibility of a return to a more active wet-weather pattern by next weekend.
