New and improved weather page

Thanks for checking out the new and improved KIROTV.com!  We launched our updated website yesterday afternoon with a lot of new features… especially here on the weather page.

You’re reading one of those features right now… my weather blog.  My colleagues Rebecca Stevenson and Morgan Palmer will also be keeping their own blogs here on the site.  Here you can find us going into more detail about the weather forecast and other topics we find interesting.  One of the coolest new features in my opinion is the “personal forecast.”  You can find it here:  http://www.kirotv.com/s/weather/personal-forecast/#at=0&

You’ll find an hourly graph that outlines the next 48 hours where you live.  You can actually put in your address and our high resolution computer models will output the temperatures and precipitation you can expect.  Just drag your mouse cursor over the graph and watch the magic begin!

You can also sign up for a daily weather e-mail that we personally write on our shift.  If you click the “e-mail alerts” button at the top of the graph, you can sign up for that.  You will also be able to sign up for e-mail or mobile alerts when weather watches and warnings are issued for your area.

Old favorites like the video forecast and our interactive radar are still available as well!  OK… I promise I’m done being the pitchman.  :)  I just want to make sure you will be able to find all the cool new features on our website.

Stay warm outside this morning; many spots are below freezing around the south sound.  Olympia dropped down to 25 degrees this morning.  That is the coldest temperature the state capital has seen since April 8th… nearly 7 months ago!

A cold November storm rolls in this evening bringing increasing rain between 5 and 8 p.m.  It will be a very soggy evening commute.  Much colder air works in later tonight, lowering our snow level down to 3,000 feet.  That is low enough for Snoqualmie Pass to pick up its first snowfall of the season.  Snow will not be very impressive along I-90… around an inch of snow can be expected with this storm.  Snow will be heavier over the North Cascades where a Winter Storm Warning takes effect at 6 p.m. this evening.  2 to 6 inches are forecast around Mount Baker.

Have a great Wednesday!
