When my alarm clock went off at 2:45 this morning, the first thing I did was pick up my smart phone and check the hourly observations at Sea-Tac Airport.  As the website was loading on my phone I could hear rain hitting my bedroom window.  I was thinking that the dry streak must be over.  I ended up being right, but it was very close.  The hourly observations revealed that a mere 0.01” of rain fell between 10:53 p.m. and 11:53 p.m. Sunday night.

When I got into work and took a look at StormTracker radar, there it was in all its glory.  Okay… it really wasn’t all that impressive.  You can see for yourself on the radar image I captured above.  The shower was very light and brief, lasting less than 15 minutes.  The 0.01” of rain that fell is the minimum required to be considered “measurable.”   Higher amounts fell overnight into early this morning around portions of North King County and Snohomish County.  Paine Field in Everett recorded nearly 0.25" of rain.

The streak ends at 48 days, making this the second longest dry streak on record for Seattle.  If that shower did not move over the airport last night, there is a very good chance that we would have exceeded the longest dry stretch of 51 days.

Showers will be minimal through the remainder of today, and there is no rain expected through the rest of this week.  I know some coffee shops are already selling those pumpkin spice lattes, but don’t let them fool you;  summer is not over yet!  Temperatures climb back into upper 70s and low 80s over the second half of the workweek.
