SEATTLE -- The thunderstorms that came crashing around the Puget Sound have left their mark and left western Washington.Powerful storms rolled through western Washington Wednesday night and continued Thursday, rattling windows, dropping penny-sized hail and bringing large amounts of rainfall.It rained for so long in south Bellevue that it sent mud cascading through the streets late Thursday morning.
Mudslide Covers Streets Of South Bellevue Neighborhood Stevenson reported rainfall amounts around the Sound including .27 inch in Bellingham, .41 inch in Everett and .25 inch in Seattle.Not only did the rain fall, but thousands of lightning strikes were seen in the sky.Upwards of 3,000 lightning strikes were recorded Wednesday night into Thursday, Stevenson said."The last time we had an event like this was Aug. 3, 1999, when 3,000 to 4,000 lightning strikes were recorded," said Stevenson.
Lightning Bolt Tears Apart Tree In South PrairieStevenson spoke with Ted Buehner of the National Weather Service who said that more severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in a six to eight hour period than ever before Wednesday.
