Lewis County officials are trying to find equipment belonging to the Search and Rescue unit that someone stole earlier this week.

Thieves stole the gear worth $9,000 from a storage shop in the Onalaska area on Wednesday night, Sheriff Steve Mansfield said.

"This isn't just a theft out of someone's garage. This is one of those despicable acts that has the potential to jeopardize how we conduct business in the delivery of search and rescue services," Mansfield said in a news release.

A white 16-foot enclosed cargo trailer like this one with Washington license 0795NR was stolen.

Taken were a white 16-foot cargo trailer with Washington license 0795NR, a 14-foot 2003 Double Delight snowmobile trailer marked with "Mossyrock Search and Rescue" with Washington license 8816PZ, a 20-foot gray 1995 NWCT trailer with Washington license 8587TL and an inoperable 1986 Honda ATV 3-wheeler.

The sheriff said a vehicle that might have been involved in the thefts is a dark gray, late '90s Dodge extra cab pick-up truck with large tires and chrome wheels.

The sheriff's office asked citizens with information about the theft to call 911 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-748-6422.
