Three-alarm fire at Bellevue commercial building causes $1 million in damage

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A large portion of a commercial building was destroyed by fire Tuesday night at the Columbia Business Park in Bellevue.

Bellevue firefighters were called to 13427 Northeast 20th Street in North Bellevue at 9:22 p.m. Several calls were made by businesses reporting that fire was coming from the building's windows.

The first arriving unit started attacking the fire from the outside. Crews from Bellevue cut several holes in the building’s roof to stop the spread of fire to the rest of the building.

The severity of the fire was upgraded twice to a three-alarm fire response. A total of 21 fire units from Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland and Mercer Island responded to the fire.

Crews were able to limit the spread of the fire to about half of the building.

Among the nine businesses damaged or destroyed were a beauty supply store and a daycare.

Preliminary damage estimates are around $1 million. The building was not equipped with fire protection systems.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
